Will we still have MWC at the end of the month? The list of companies leaving the event is growing! In the end, if the thing was already at risk, with the news that we just received, it is likely that those who have a scheduled trip can find something else to do between the 24th and 27th of February.
Intel has also abandoned MWC due to Coronavirus! In other words, MWC now means ‘Most Wont Come’!
Therefore, Intel said in a statement that:
- “The safety and well-being of our employees and partners is our top priority. So, in an abundance of care, we decided not to attend Mobile World Congress 2020. ”
Thus, Intel joins other giants such as Sony, Amazon, NVIDIA, LG, ZTE, VIVO and Samsung, who also decided to protect their staff and partners by not attending. However, in a very curious way, we have other manufacturers that have already confirmed their presence for whatever they want, as are the examples of Xiaomi and Huawei.
In case you don't know, despite these confirmations from giants in the mobile industry, the event is really at risk! Yes, even after several communications from the GSMA (MWC organizer) stating that everything would happen normally.
It is that despite all the confidence of the organizer, we will have a meeting next Friday (the 14th), to decide if the plans are really to go ahead, or if the event will be postponed to Spring… Or who you know … if it will be canceled.
Meanwhile, MWC was expected to have 100,000 people, most of which would reach Barcelona from giant China. Even so, even with all the cancellations already confirmed, the event still has 2800 partners ready to appear at the show.
