Axel Tuanzebe was the only player to emerge with credit from Manchester United's defeat at Newcastle last Sunday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not been afraid to criticize his players in recent weeks as they continue to deliver below normal results for a club of his stature.
However, according to the Daily Telegraph, young defender Tuanzebe caught Solskjaer's attention with his performance at St James' Park.
It may not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but the former Aston Villa loaner has given his manager ideas to think about in recent weeks amid the crisis.
He received the captaincy in the penalty shootout victory over Rochdale in the Carabao Cup in a decision that shocked some sections of the locker room.
Old Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves highlighted the defender for praise after the defeat.
"The only bright spark I would say today was Tuanzebe," he told Optus Sport.
“I thought he played very well.
"But the rest is far from what you would expect.
"I'm sorry for United fans because it will take a long time to fix."
Tuanzebe partnered with Harry Maguire in the center of the defense, but the England international was not at the top of his game.
Lindelof is part of the Swedish squad for the upcoming games with Malta and Spain, despite limping on Tyneside last weekend.
That suggests he will be fit for Liverpool next Sunday, which means Solskjaer has a decision to make.
