Lewis Hamilton raised fears that he was about to leave F1 yesterday with a message in his Instagram story.
The three-time F1 world champion said he considered "giving up everything" in a worrying statement.
However, Mercedes has already talked to Germany's SID news agency to explain where the main driver is coming from.
"I think he was referring to environmental issues and not anything related to racing," said a spokesman.
"However, I'm not sure."
Hamilton raised concerns yesterday when he posted the message on Instagram before deleting it later.
“Honestly, I feel like giving up on everything. Shut down completely, ”he wrote.
"Why worry when the world is so messy and people don't seem to care.
"It will take me a moment to gather my thoughts.
"Thank you guys who care about the world."
Another message has surfaced since Hamilton asks people to turn to veganism.
"It has taken me 32 years to understand the impact I am having on the world and I am daily discovering what I can do to play a better role," he said.
"I want my life to mean something and honestly so far my life has no meaning. Being part of the problem is not significant.
"Being part of the solution is and I'm striving to do better. I ask you to do some research, find the compassion I have in you to recognize what you are contributing to in terms of what you eat, which keeps the meat industry going." and flourishing dairy products, and therefore deforestation, animal cruelty, our seas and climate declining daily.
"Be vegan, it's the only way to truly save our planet today.
"It can be done so quickly, all you have to do is remember that."
